Smart battery at last
According to this, smart battery is now supported under 2.6.18, after all the so called 'smart battery' turned out to be unsmart.
So people with laptops equiped with such batteries rejoice as there's now no longer any need to mess around with patching your DSDT.

Small company in need of Linux support
Some of the EGLUG members were contacted by a small company located in 6th of October in need of support for their Linux stations.
This company chose to have Linux as its main OS on its PC's as well as servers, they are running Mandrake Linux 10.1 on the PC's.
They are having the usual minor usage problems and mainly the problem with arabic, I advised them to post their problems on our forum and seek suggested solutions as these solutions will be of benfit for them as well as other companies.
Xorg displaying 1280x800 on Acer TravelMate - WOW Crispy
It all started with Alaa mentioning that these lappies having higher resolution on their preinstalled windowz, so why not us..
I first found that it displays 1280x800 on windows while only 1024x768 on Mandrake (Mandriva or wutever), googling enough I found this on ubuntu forums, followed the steps, errr.. not exactly.
I got the 855resolution-0.3.tgz, compiled it and there we go, pretty neat app, seemingly the intel 855 video chipsets have some sort of programmable part in the bios to deal with wide screens.

Nice title, eh?
That was the same tought I had when a friend sent me this link "How to Kill Linux"
I always thought this Dvorak guy was really stupid, when I used to read PCMag. it usualy came to my mind what the heck brought this guy into the IT world, he doesn't have the slightest idea about how things are going. Of course I wanted to reply to this stoop article, but hey LinuxWorld did the job quiet well in "LinuxWorld's riposte to the columnist's assertations" and while googling I found several replies for the issue as well.
