What do you mean by "i have i

What do you mean by "i have installed fedora 3 on an unformatted hd" ? I don't think this is possible. I am sure the fedora 3 installation let's you reparition your hard drive then chose the partitions you want to format and install the system on.

I see 3 possible issues here:
  1. Maybe you haven't installed the system at all
  2. Maybe the bootloader (Grub or Lilo) haven't been correctly configured during installation
  3. Maybe you just haven't switched the bios back to boot from the hard drive instead of the cdrom/dvdrom.

Bootloader

A bootloader is not only needed multi-OS installation. When you install Windows, a windows bootloader is also installed, you just don't notice it. A bootloader is either installed on the first partition (root partition) or either the MBR (Master Boot Record). It's job is to point at where an Operating system is so it can boot it. Eithercase, whether you want fedora only or along with another OS, you will have to have a bootloader. If this is the problem, then find out what your bootloader is and configure it correctly, otherwise, try swapping the slave hard drive into master and see what comes out.

how did you format? using the

ramez.hanna's picture

how did you format? using the automatic feature or manually? if manually did mention the patitioning you created

the best things in life are free --- so as myself

install the bootloader to the mbr

i think it is better first to read the fedora installaion guide then proceed on, any how you should install the grub bootloader to the mbr otherwise can't boot to the linux.
