salam alikom
i have a trouble finding a suitable distribution for my hp compaq nx6110 laptop that works just well (like a normal OS).
I tried Mandriva 2006 free but it is tooooo slow and suffers a massive shortage of packages and drivers. Olso tried SuSE 9.3 but the video card didn't work despite many trials to adjust the resolution.
after refering to www.linux-laptop.com , i decided to use Debian sarge. but it is too old and the same problem in my video adapter appeared, so the Xserver can't start and i am using the command line only for the moment.
any sugestion???
thanx alot

too slow is a longish
too slow is a longish story. but you can solve the lacks packages and drivers problem by configuring remote packages sources.
Mandrake CDs don't cover all the packages available to mandrake, not to mention that there is a large repository of community provided packages called contrib.
as for proprietary drivers, you can get them from the PLF package repository.
use the wizard @ http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/ to help you configure these repositories
total size of Mandrake with the three repos is around 13GB, only debian is larger.

Maybe Ubuntu
Ubuntu has become one of the top players now (if not THE top player). You may want to give it a try. It's kinda lighter than Mandriva by default. Never tried it myself, but I know it's good and newbie-friendly.
