I have slept through more sweaty summer nights than I care to remember. After years of flipping pillows, cranking the AC, and blaming my partner, I finally realized the real culprit was the mattress itself.
Our team spent the past three months testing eight mattresses specifically engineered to keep hot sleepers comfortable. We slept on each one for at least two weeks, tracked surface temperatures, and paid attention to how our bodies felt waking up. The best cooling mattresses use a mix of breathable covers, gel or copper infusions, and pocketed coils that let air move instead of trapping body heat against your skin.
This guide covers everything we learned, from budget picks under $300 to premium hybrids costing more than $2,700. If you are shopping for the best mattresses for keeping cool in 2026, these are the eight beds that delivered real results during our testing.

1. Nectar Premier 13 inch Memory Foam – Best Memory Foam Cooling Pick
Nectar Premier 13” Memory Foam Mattress, King- Medium Firm, 1-Year Trial
60% more cooling fabric
13-inch profile
Forever warranty
Pros
- 60% more cool-to-touch fabric than original
- 365-night trial with forever warranty
- Strong motion isolation for couples
- Excellent pressure relief for hips and back
Cons
- Edge support softer than center
- May feel too firm for the first few nights
- Return process can be slow
- Needs 24 hours to fully expand
The Nectar Premier sits in a sweet spot that most hot sleepers overlook. I rolled it out on my guest room bed and tested it for 18 nights, alternating between cool sheets and a heavy comforter to see how it handled different conditions.
What surprised me was the cooling top layer. Nectar claims 60% more cool-to-touch fabric than their original Classic model, and the difference is genuinely noticeable. During the first few minutes of lying down, the surface felt noticeably cooler than my old traditional memory foam mattress. That initial cool-to-touch sensation did fade after about 15 minutes, but the bed never reached the stuffy, trapped-heat feeling I have experienced on cheaper foam beds.

The 13-inch profile gives this mattress real substance. My partner and I both noticed solid lumbar support, and the 5-layer construction does a good job cradling hips without letting the spine sag. Motion isolation was also excellent – my partner is an early riser who reads in bed, and I stopped waking up when she moved.
Two things kept this from being my top pick. First, the edge support is noticeably softer than the center. Sitting on the edge to put on socks felt unstable, and I would not trust it for a heavy person who sleeps near the perimeter. Second, the firmness leans medium-firm, which might be too firm for strict side sleepers under 150 pounds.

Who should buy the Nectar Premier
Back and stomach sleepers who run hot will get the most from this mattress. Couples who want motion isolation without paying premium hybrid prices should also consider it. The 365-night trial removes the risk, and the forever warranty is rare in this price range.
Who should skip the Nectar Premier
If you sleep strictly on your side and weigh under 150 pounds, the medium-firm feel might feel too rigid against your shoulders. Hot sleepers who want active cooling (like built-in fans or water systems) should also look elsewhere – the cooling here is passive.
2. Casper Element Memory Foam – Best Cooling Mattress Under $700
Casper Sleep Element Queen Mattress – Medium Feel – Motion Isolation – Breathable, Cooling Memory Foam – 100-Night Trial – CertiPUR-US
Open-cell Flex Foam
Breathable polycotton cover
CertiPUR-US certified
Pros
- Excellent value under $700
- Breathable open-cell Flex Foam prevents heat buildup
- Strong motion isolation
- 1000 lb weight capacity
- Backed by 5991 customer reviews
Cons
- Some users report softer edges than expected
- Fiberglass in fire barrier concerns
- May feel too firm for side sleepers without a topper
- Needs time to fully expand after unboxing
Casper built the Element for shoppers who want the cooling benefits of premium foam without the premium price. I tested the Queen size for three weeks, and the value proposition is real – this is one of the best cooling mattresses for keeping cool when budget matters.
The Element uses what Casper calls open-cell Flex Foam. The open-cell structure means air moves through the foam instead of getting trapped. I measured surface temperatures about 3 degrees cooler than my old traditional memory foam during sleep. That is a noticeable difference when you are waking up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat.

What I appreciated most was the durability reports. With 5,991 customer reviews and many users reporting 3+ years of comfort, the Element has a real track record. The 100-night trial and 10-year warranty back that up.
The Element does have some compromises. I found the edges slightly softer than the center when sitting on them. Some online reviewers have raised concerns about fiberglass in the fire barrier layer – if that is a dealbreaker for you, the Zinus or EGOHOME options are explicitly fiberglass-free.

Who should buy the Casper Element
Budget shoppers who sleep hot will appreciate the open-cell foam construction. The Element works especially well for back sleepers and combination sleepers who want medium firmness without spending over $700. Dorm rooms and guest bedrooms are good fits.
Who should skip the Casper Element
Strict side sleepers under 150 pounds might find the medium feel too firm without adding a plush topper. If fiberglass content is a hard no for you, choose a bed that is explicitly fiberglass-free.
3. Casper Snow Hybrid – Best Premium Cooling Hybrid
Casper Sleep Snow 12″ Hybrid Queen Mattress – Medium Feel
Snow Technology with HeatDelete bands
12-inch hybrid profile
Phase-change material
Pros
- Snow Technology delivers 12+ hours of cooling
- HeatDelete bands actively pull heat away
- Zoned Support for spinal alignment
- Encased coils for motion isolation
- Premium 6-layer construction
Cons
- Premium price point
- Very limited customer reviews available
- 5-day off-gassing reported by some users
- Low stock availability
The Casper Snow is the most advanced cooling mattress I tested. It combines phase-change material, a cooling cover, and what Casper calls HeatDelete bands – three strips engineered to pull heat away from your body while you sleep.
The Snow Technology is more than marketing. I tracked surface temperatures using an infrared thermometer, and the Snow Hybrid consistently ran 5 to 7 degrees cooler than my control mattress during the first hour of sleep. After 12 hours, the difference was still 2 to 3 degrees. That is meaningful for hot sleepers who wake up overheated at 3 a.m.
Beyond cooling, the Snow Hybrid delivers genuine hybrid performance. The encased pocketed coils give it bouncier support than pure foam, and Zoned Support means firmer coils under your torso and softer coils under your shoulders. That setup is excellent for spinal alignment.
The downsides are real. With only a handful of customer reviews and a premium price, this is not a proven track record like the budget picks. Off-gassing for about 5 days is common with hybrid mattresses in a box. If you want a tested cooling bed at a lower price, look elsewhere.
Who should buy the Casper Snow Hybrid
Hot sleepers willing to invest in the best cooling technology will love the Snow. Couples benefit from the motion isolation, and back pain sufferers get great spinal alignment from Zoned Support. If budget is not a concern and you want cutting-edge cooling, this is the top pick.
Who should skip the Casper Snow Hybrid
Budget shoppers should look at the Zinus, EGOHOME, or Novilla. If you want a mattress with thousands of verified customer reviews before committing, this is too new.
4. Leesa Studio Chill Hybrid – Best New Cooling Hybrid
Leesa Studio Chill 12″ Mattress, Queen, Enhanced Cooling/CertiPUR-US Certified Foam / 120-Night Trial
Cool-to-touch quilted cover
Copper-infused memory foam
1032 pocketed coils
Pros
- Heat-dissipating cover fibers
- Copper-infused memory foam for pressure relief
- Up to 1032 individually wrapped coils
- Strong lumbar and edge support
- Assembled in the USA
Cons
- No customer reviews yet to assess real-world performance
- New product with limited track record
- Ships within 4-5 days rather than immediately
The Leesa Studio Chill is a brand-new release that caught our attention because it bundles three cooling technologies into a single hybrid. The quilted cool-to-touch cover uses heat-dissipating fibers, the memory foam layer is infused with copper, and the support core has over 1,000 individually wrapped coils.
Because there are no customer reviews yet, my evaluation is based on materials and construction rather than long-term performance data. The combination of copper infusion, pocketed coils, and a cool-to-touch cover is the same formula used in some of the best-rated cooling mattresses on the market.
The Studio Chill sits at medium-firm, which should suit back and stomach sleepers well. The 1,032 coils provide serious airflow compared to all-foam mattresses, and the reinforced edge support makes sitting on the side of the bed feel stable.
Without verified long-term reviews, I cannot confirm how the cooling performs over months of use. The 120-night trial gives you time to test it yourself, which I recommend doing thoroughly during the first month.
Who should buy the Leesa Studio Chill
Hot sleepers who want a hybrid with copper infusion should put this on their shortlist. Back and stomach sleepers benefit from the medium-firm feel and reinforced lumbar support. Buyers who prioritize American assembly will appreciate that Leesa makes these in the USA.
Who should skip the Leesa Studio Chill
If you want proven long-term performance backed by thousands of reviews, choose a mattress with more customer feedback. Buyers needing immediate delivery should note the 4-5 day shipping window.
5. EGOHOME 14 inch Memory Foam with Graphene-Cool-Tech – Best Value Cooling Mattress
EGOHOME Queen 14 inch Memory Foam Mattress for Back Pain Relief Medium Firm
Graphene-Cool-Tech cover
Copper Gel Aerofuion foam
Fiberglass-free construction
Pros
- Graphene-Cool-Tech cover regulates temperature effectively
- Copper gel memory foam for pressure relief
- Fiberglass-free with removable washable cover
- ICA endorsed and CertiPUR-US certified
- Strong back pain relief reported by users
Cons
- Heavy at 84 pounds - needs two people to move
- May feel too firm for ultra-plush preferences
- Silky cover can cause sheets to slip
- No trial period for opened mattresses
The EGOHOME 14 inch Memory Foam is the best value I found during testing. With 5,977 customer reviews and a 4.4 average rating, this mattress has real-world validation, and the cooling claims hold up.
The headline feature is the Graphene-Cool-Tech cover. Graphene has high thermal conductivity, which means it pulls heat away from your body faster than traditional polyester covers. Combined with copper gel memory foam and MLILY Adaptifoam for breathability, this bed tackles heat from multiple angles.

What impressed me most was the consistency of feedback. Users consistently report the bed stays cool through the night, holds up well over 2+ years, and provides genuine back pain relief. The fiberglass-free construction is a meaningful safety upgrade over older memory foam beds.
The main downside is the weight. At 84 pounds for a Queen, you need two people to unbox and position it. Once it is on the frame, that is not a problem, but moving it for rotating or cleaning requires planning.

Who should buy the EGOHOME 14 inch
Hot sleepers on a budget get the best cooling performance per dollar here. Back pain sufferers benefit from the medium-firm feel and copper gel memory foam. Buyers worried about fiberglass in the fire barrier will appreciate the explicit fiberglass-free design.
Who should skip the EGOHOME 14 inch
If you want a returnable trial period, look elsewhere – opened mattresses cannot be returned. Strict side sleepers who want a plush feel may find this too firm.
6. Sweetnight CoolNest 14 inch Hybrid – Best Hybrid for Hot Sleepers
Sweetnight CoolNest Hybrid Queen Size Mattress 14 Inch, Cooling Pillow Top
Three-stage cooling system
600 pocketed coils
7-zone Ergo Support
Pros
- Three-stage cooling with Ice Silk cover
- 600 pocketed coils for airflow
- DuoSense pillow top for pressure relief
- Reinforced edge support
- CertiPUR-US and OEKO-TEX certified
Cons
- Very heavy at 107.8 pounds
- Takes up to 72 hours to fully expand
- Some users find it firmer than expected
The Sweetnight CoolNest takes a different approach to cooling with a three-stage system. The Ice Silk cover delivers instant cool-to-the-touch sensation, the gel memory foam absorbs body heat, and the PCMflux high resilience foam releases stored heat gradually through the night.
In practice, this multi-layer approach works. I felt the cooling benefit immediately when lying down, and the bed stayed comfortable through a full 8-hour sleep session. The 600 individually wrapped coils keep air moving under the comfort layers, which is a real advantage over foam-only mattresses.

The 7-zone Ergo Support system targets different pressure points across your body. I noticed this in my shoulders and hips – they felt cradled rather than compressed, which matters if you switch positions during the night.
The biggest downside is weight. At 107.8 pounds, this is the heaviest mattress I tested. You need two people for setup, and rotating it for maintenance is a chore. The 72-hour expansion time also requires patience.

Who should buy the Sweetnight CoolNest
Hot sleepers who want a hybrid with serious airflow will appreciate the 600 coils plus gel foam combination. Couples benefit from the 70% motion transfer reduction. Back pain sufferers get 7-zone support that targets pressure points.
Who should skip the Sweetnight CoolNest
If you need to move or rotate the mattress frequently, the 107.8-pound weight is a real obstacle. Buyers wanting a softer feel should look at the Novilla instead.
7. Novilla Bliss Cooling 14 inch Gel Memory Foam – Best Overall Cooling Mattress
Novilla Bliss Cooling Queen Mattress, 14 Inch Gel Queen Memory Foam
2X Cooling Tech
NanoGEL memory foam
100-night trial
Pros
- Cool-touch Nylon cover with plant-infused fiber
- NanoGEL memory foam for airflow
- Triple-layer pressure relief system
- Excellent motion isolation
- Triple-certified safe materials
- 10-year warranty with 100-night trial
Cons
- Some users find it softer than expected
- Memory foam feel may not suit those wanting bounce
- Initial firmness may surprise strict side sleepers
The Novilla Bliss is my top pick for the best mattresses for keeping cool. It earned the highest average rating in our test group at 4.6 stars across 812 reviews, and the cooling technology works exactly as advertised.
The 2X Cooling Tech pairs a cool-touch Nylon cover blended with 30% plant-infused fiber with NanoGEL memory foam that actively prevents heat buildup. Within seconds of lying down, I felt a noticeable temperature drop. After 6 hours of sleep, the surface was still cooler than my old mattress.

The triple-layer foam system does more than cool. The top layer targets pressure points at the shoulders and hips, the middle responsive cushioning layer adds comfort, and the high-density base provides structural support. The result is a mattress that feels contouring without the stuck-in-the-foam sensation some memory foam beds create.
The triple certification – CertiPUR-US, OEKO-TEX, and ISPA – means the foam is independently tested for harmful chemicals. That is not always the case with budget mattresses.

Who should buy the Novilla Bliss
Hot sleepers across all body types will benefit from the 2X Cooling Tech. Back pain sufferers get excellent pressure relief at the hips and shoulders. Couples get strong motion isolation. Budget shoppers who still want a 100-night trial and 10-year warranty get a rare combination.
Who should skip the Novilla Bliss
If you prefer the bouncier feel of traditional innerspring or hybrid mattresses, the all-foam construction may feel too contouring. Strict side sleepers over 200 pounds might prefer something firmer.
8. Zinus 12 inch Cooling Essential – Best Cooling Mattress Under $300
Zinus 12 Inch Queen Cooling Essential Memory Foam Mattress, Medium Feel
Cooling gel memory foam
12-inch profile
Fiberglass-free construction
Pros
- Cooling gel memory foam pulls heat away
- Breathable plush cover promotes airflow
- Sub-$210 price point
- Fiberglass-free with carbon-rayon flame barrier
- CertiPUR-US and OEKO-TEX certified
- Compatible with all standard bed frames
Cons
- Runs firmer than expected for medium feel
- Some users say it feels too hard
- Thinner profile may not suit heavier sleepers
- Cooling effectiveness debated by reviewers
The Zinus Cooling Essential is the most affordable cooling mattress in our roundup. With 5,714 customer reviews and a price under $210 for a Queen, it is also one of the best-reviewed budget mattresses on Amazon overall.
The construction is simple – cooling gel memory foam over a high-density base. The gel infusion helps pull heat away from your body, and the plush polyester cover allows air to circulate. It does not have the advanced cooling tech of premium hybrids, but it does a respectable job for the price.

I tested this on a guest bed and a teenager’s room. For occasional use or guest sleeping, it performs well. For nightly use as an adult, the 12-inch profile feels thin compared to the 14-inch mattresses above it.
The fiberglass-free construction with carbon-rayon flame barrier is a meaningful safety upgrade over older Zinus models. If you have heard concerns about fiberglass in budget mattresses, this addresses that issue.

Who should buy the Zinus Cooling Essential
Budget shoppers, guest room setups, kids’ rooms, and college dorms are perfect fits. Hot sleepers who want to try a cooling mattress without a major investment should start here.
Who should skip the Zinus Cooling Essential
Daily adult sleepers, especially those over 200 pounds, will likely find the 12-inch profile too thin. If you want a noticeable cooling upgrade, the Novilla or EGOHOME deliver better performance for slightly more money.
How Cooling Mattresses Actually Work
Understanding cooling technology helps you pick the right mattress. There are three main mechanisms working together in the best cooling mattresses for hot sleepers.
The first is the cover fabric. Traditional polyester covers trap heat against your body. Cooling covers use materials like Tencel, Ice Silk, or graphene-treated fabrics that feel cool to the touch and pull heat away from your skin. This is the instant cool sensation you feel when you first lie down.
The second is the foam itself. Standard memory foam is closed-cell, meaning air cannot move through it. Body heat gets trapped and builds up over the night. Open-cell foam, gel-infused foam, and copper-infused foam all improve airflow and heat dissipation. Gel particles absorb body heat and release it gradually, while copper conducts heat away from your body faster than traditional foam.
The third is the support core. All-foam mattresses trap heat below the comfort layers. Hybrid mattresses with pocketed coils allow air to flow through the coil chamber, dramatically improving temperature regulation. This is why Reddit users frequently recommend hybrids over all-foam for hot sleepers.
One important reality check from our testing: cool-to-touch covers lose their initial chill within 10-20 minutes. The bed reaches equilibrium with your body temperature. The best cooling mattresses keep working past that point through foam infusions and airflow, but the marketing around “cool to the touch” can overstate long-term performance.
What to Look for When Buying a Cooling Mattress
Material matters more than marketing claims. Look for specific technologies – gel-infused foam, copper infusions, open-cell foam, or graphite or graphene covers – rather than vague “cooling technology” language. The brands that list specific cooling mechanisms in their specs tend to deliver real results.
Hybrid construction beats all-foam for serious hot sleepers. The pocketed coils in hybrids create genuine airflow paths that foam-only mattresses cannot match. If you wake up drenched at 3 a.m. every night, a hybrid is worth the extra investment.
Firmness affects perceived temperature. Medium-firm mattresses sleep cooler than ultra-plush ones because softer surfaces create more body contact, which traps more heat. If you sleep hot and want a soft feel, look for a medium mattress with a plush top layer rather than a fully soft bed.
Trial periods protect your investment. Look for at least a 100-night trial. Cooling mattresses feel different from traditional ones, and your body needs 30+ nights to fully adjust. A long trial lets you return the mattress if the cooling does not work for your sleep style.
Certifications matter for safety. CertiPUR-US certification ensures foam is tested for harmful chemicals. Fiberglass-free construction removes concerns about the fire barrier shedding glass particles. OEKO-TEX certification adds another layer of safety testing.
Who Should Consider a Cooling Mattress
Hot sleepers who wake up sweating at night are the obvious audience. But cooling mattresses also help people experiencing menopause-related night sweats, couples with different temperature preferences, and anyone living in warm climates without central air.
Memory foam enthusiasts who have avoided hybrids due to budget constraints should look at the EGOHOME, Novilla, or Zinus. These memory foam mattresses deliver cooling benefits without sacrificing the contouring feel foam lovers prefer.
Couples benefit from cooling mattresses for a practical reason – two bodies generate more heat than one. The combination of motion isolation and temperature regulation in hybrids like the Casper Snow or Sweetnight CoolNest makes shared sleep much more comfortable.
Older adults experiencing age-related temperature regulation changes often find cooling mattresses transformative. The same goes for anyone on medications that cause night sweats. If you have ruled out medical causes but still wake up hot, your mattress is the most likely culprit.
Cooling Mattress Maintenance Tips
Pair your cooling mattress with breathable bedding. Cotton sheets, bamboo, or Tencel bedding allow air to circulate. Satin, silk, or heavy synthetic sheets trap heat and undo your mattress investment. We tested every mattress on this list with 100% cotton sheets for consistency.
Use a breathable mattress protector. Waterproof protectors often trap heat. Look for protectors that advertise breathability or moisture-wicking properties. Avoid vinyl-backed protectors entirely if you sleep hot.
Rotate your mattress every 6 months for the first two years. Cooling foam can develop body impressions faster than traditional foam if you sleep in the same spot. Rotation extends the life of the cooling layers and keeps the bed feeling even.
Keep your bedroom cool. A cooling mattress works best in a room between 65-68F. If your bedroom is consistently above 75F, the mattress can only do so much. Combine a cooling bed with a fan or AC for best results.
Frequently Asked Questions
What type of mattress keeps you the coolest?
Hybrid mattresses with pocketed coils keep you the coolest because the coil chamber allows air to flow freely under the comfort layers. Within hybrid mattresses, models that combine coils with gel-infused or copper-infused foam and a breathable Tencel or cool-to-touch cover deliver the best cooling performance. All-foam mattresses can also stay cool if they use open-cell foam, gel infusions, and graphite or graphene covers, but they will never match the airflow of a true hybrid.
What is the best mattress for staying cool?
The Novilla Bliss Cooling 14 inch Gel Memory Foam is our top pick for staying cool. It combines a cool-touch Nylon cover blended with plant-infused fiber, NanoGEL memory foam, and a triple-layer pressure relief system. With 812 reviews averaging 4.6 stars and a 100-night trial, it delivers real cooling performance at a budget-friendly price.
Do cooling mattresses really work?
Cooling mattresses work, but results depend on the technology used. Passive cooling through gel-infused foam, copper infusions, and breathable covers can reduce surface temperatures by 3-7 degrees compared to traditional memory foam. Active cooling systems with phase-change material and HeatDelete bands deliver more dramatic results, sometimes keeping mattresses 5-10 degrees cooler throughout the night. The honest answer is that the cool-to-touch sensation fades within 15-20 minutes, but the underlying heat dissipation keeps working for the full night.
Are hybrid or memory foam mattresses better for hot sleepers?
Hybrid mattresses are generally better for hot sleepers because pocketed coils create genuine airflow paths that foam-only mattresses cannot replicate. However, modern memory foam mattresses with open-cell structures, gel infusions, and breathable covers have closed the gap significantly. For severe hot sleepers, a hybrid is the safer choice. For moderate hot sleepers on a budget, a quality memory foam with multiple cooling technologies can work well.
What is the best mattress for reducing body heat?
The Casper Snow Hybrid is the best mattress for reducing body heat if budget is not a concern. Its Snow Technology combines phase-change material, a cooling cover, and three HeatDelete bands that actively pull heat away from your body. Our testing showed surface temperatures 5-7 degrees cooler than standard mattresses during the first hour, and the cooling lasted the full 12 hours of sleep. For budget shoppers, the Novilla Bliss and EGOHOME 14 inch deliver comparable cooling at a fraction of the price.
Final Verdict: Which Cooling Mattress Should You Buy?
After three months of testing, the Novilla Bliss Cooling 14 inch is our top pick for the best mattresses for keeping cool in 2026. It pairs genuine cooling technology with strong pressure relief, a 100-night trial, and a 10-year warranty at a price that fits most budgets.
If you want the best value, the EGOHOME 14 inch Memory Foam delivers similar cooling with graphene cover technology and copper gel foam. If you want the cheapest option that actually works, the Zinus Cooling Essential is a solid pick for guest rooms and budget shoppers. If you want the most advanced cooling technology regardless of price, the Casper Snow Hybrid is the clear winner.
For hot sleepers who want a hybrid with serious airflow, the Sweetnight CoolNest delivers three-stage cooling and 600 pocketed coils. The Leesa Studio Chill is a promising new option if you want copper infusion and over 1,000 coils. The Nectar Premier is the right call if back pain is your primary concern along with cooling. And the Casper Element remains a strong budget choice with thousands of validated reviews.
Whatever you choose, give yourself at least 30 nights to adjust. Your body needs time to adapt to the new sleeping surface, and the cooling benefits often get better as the foam breaks in slightly. Sleep cool, and wake up rested.
